Subject: We did it-Jefferson Davis Hwy is gone!

Real Progress Continues

Yesterday we renamed Jefferson Davis Highway, which runs through the eastern portion of the county, Richmond Highway.  This is a long overdue seminal moment in Prince William County’s history.  It is another important way we have changed the face of our amazing county.

Unfortunately, at the same time, a recall effort has been launched against me by opponents of progressive change.

Yes, let me repeat that, a recall effort was just launched against me.

This recall event represents the ultimate effort to fight the progress this Democratic majority board has been making from day one in Prince William County.   In the last two and a half years we have:

  • Allocated millions of new dollars for human services and mental health
  • Directed CARES/ARPA funding to the most vulnerable in our county
  • Gave tens of millions of additional funding to our school system
  • Began work on implementing Collective Bargining for county employees
  • Eliminated the anti-immigrant 287G program and supported our immigrant population
  • Established a Racial and Social Justice Commission
  • Established a Sustainability Commission
  • Created the Office of Equity and Inclusion
  • Funded a new public defender’s office

Jefferson Davis Highway may be gone, but the forces that are fighting progress in Prince William County remain.  Many people recognize that the effort to recall me is an effort to try to take Prince William County backwards.  Whether it be land-use or social progress, the old guard is fighting change.

Imagine how much progress we could make if people embraced the change and the exciting future it could bring, for ALL Prince William County residents?

Today, I am asking for your support.  We need to show the obstructionists that we mean business in Prince William County and we will not go back.

If you are in a position to help, can you take just a moment and donate $5, $25, $100, or $250? Let me know that you want progress to continue in Prince William County!

Thank you for your support; it is greatly appreciated.

Stay well,

Ann Wheeler
