Latest and Most Insidious Threat to the Rural Crescent!

PROTECT THE RURAL CRESCENT!

Do you remember the study, or the set up, to dismantle the Rural Crescent – all because one developer, Classic Homes Concepts, wanted to quadruple the number of homes and introduce sewer on Rural Crescent land he purchased well after the protections were established?

That same developer, now dealing with a new county board and many new staffers in county planning…the same developer who has been denied over and over for his Rural Crescent busting plan…he is at it again.  He is coming before the Board again on October 20, 2020.  See complete details here.

We have shown what a united citizenry can accomplish when we all speak up for what we cherish.  We need to do that again now.

Even Board Chair Ann Wheeler, in her Oct. 2, 2020 interview with Kojo Nnamdi (12:28:28), touted the “… space and good school system…” which drew her family to their Haymarket home in the Rural Crescent.

The county’s most recent build-out analysis outlines that the county has already approved construction of 35,000 additional residential housing units, when only 31,500 units are needed to accommodate the 101,400 more residents projected by 2040.  Bottom line:  there is no “need” in our county for any new housing beyond what is already planned.

This county is unique to Northern Virginia.  We have so much diversity to offer – not just in our people, but also in our landscape.  From the Potomac shore to the Bull Run Mountain, it is worth protecting.

The proposed Preserve at Long Branch development CPA and Rezoning must be stopped if the Rural Crescent is to be protected against the precedent this will set. The Planning Commissioners have already recommended denial. If Supervisors pass this CPA and Rezoning, then cluster development will ensue, with sewer and high-density housing throughout the Rural Crescent.

Use our easy and reliable click-to-send format to send your own personalized email message to the Board of Supervisors and Planning Department.  Make sure county leadership knows where you stand before the supervisors vote on October 20.
