Town Hall Rescheduled – Wednesday, Feb. 27

Please attend Supervisor Lawson’s rescheduled town hall meeting for Road Widenings and the Route 29 Small Area Plan:

 Wednesday, February 27

 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

 Haymarket Elementary

15500 Learning Lane, Haymarket

The Route 29 Small Area Plan as written would require widening to four lanes for Carver Rd., Old Carolina Rd., Thoroughfare Rd., and McGraws Corner Dr.  In a critical first step to stop these road widenings, Supervisor Lawson has made a directive to “down plan” those roads.  Thank you Supervisor Lawson!

However, plans for a town center included in this same “Small” Area Plan will only lead to the eventual need to widen these very same neighborhood roads!  The type of growth in this Small Area Plan simply doesn’t make sense. We need smart growth plans by the county in this area.

This town hall meeting is your opportunity to hear from Supervisor Lawson, learn more about the Route 29 Small Area Plan, and for her to hear from you what you want for your community!

Here is the Feb. 15 announcement from Supervisor Lawson:

*At the February 12 Board of County Supervisors’ Meeting I made the following directive:

The Comprehensive Plan has had some previous studies that predate my time on the board, my predecessor’s time on the board, and even when this area of Brentsville District was in the Gainesville District. There are some roads that were put on the Comprehensive Plan for widening, 4 lanes or improvements.  Those roads are Thoroughfare, Carver, McGraws Corner and even Old Carolina.

I would like to issue a directive to have staff down plan the following roads or portions of roads as part of the Rt. 29 Small Area Plan Process:

              Thoroughfare Rd.

              Carver Rd.

              McGraws Corner Rd.

Old Carolina Rd. – specifically studying only the portion that falls within the Brentsville District in the vicinity of the Rt. 29 Small Area Plan and the Settlement.
