STOP Neighborhood Road Widening – TOWN HALL FEB. 11

Dear Coalition Supporters,

Since when did the taking of people’s homes and properties to help developers become common-place in Prince William County?

Apparently that is exactly what could happen along Old Carolina Rd., Carver Rd., Thoroughfare Rd., and McGraws Corner Dr. – all targeted by the County to be widened to four lanes.

We can have an impact on these plans, if we show up at the Town Hall next Monday, February 11 (details below).

How much money does our County government want to squander on widening these roads, taking land and homes through eminent domain – which only helps developers?  We have real and critical infrastructure needs – such as schools.

– The Small Area Plan, which County Planning is touting, specifically states that the purpose is for “…attracting development.” (Access full details here.) This is just a ruse to enable higher density housing in an area where there simply isn’t the room, or the need, for growth.

– The Somerset Crossing extension, aka “Haymarket Bypass,” which is already under construction, is intended to relieve traffic congestion.

– To turn Old Carolina Rd. into a four lane road is pure folly!  A widened Old Carolina will bottleneck as soon as traffic comes near the town of Haymarket.

– Widening Carver Rd?? The same place where this community just fought against a high transmission power-line in order to protect the unique African-American Settlement community of freed slave descendants?  Really??  It was saved from Dominion Energy’s threat, so that now the County can destroy it for roads, and rezone it into an area for higher density housing?

None of these roads and neighborhoods need more density –  which only brings even more traffic.

We want to know – WHY?  Why was this plan even created?  Who benefits?  Certainly this Community of the county does not.

Please attend the Town Hall:

Monday, February 11
6 PM

Haymarket Elementary School
15500 Learning Lane, Haymarket

Supervisor Lawson will be leading the discussion.  Other county representatives will be in attendance.  They need to hear the concerns from YOU, their constituents and neighbors.
