A group of Prince William County residents filed a lawsuit Friday that seeks to nullify the county board’s vote last month to approve a massive data center complex near a Civil War battlefield site.

The lawsuit, filed in Prince William County’s circuit court, argues that the board violated several county ordinances and state codes in approving the Digital Gateway, which the complaint argues will ruin the historical significance of Manassas National Battlefield Park and the surrounding area that became home to formerly enslaved people after the Civil War.

“The fact that the historic site will now sit in the shadow of the monstrous data centers, along with their associated electrical infrastructure, is a national disgrace,” the 78-page complaint says….
