Thanksgiving is ALL about family and community

Dear Supporters,

Holidays like Thanksgiving can get stressful and complicated; wondering how to fit in the meal-making, the cleaning, the perfect turkey, the perfect pumpkin pie.

For so many in the community that have had their lives turned upside down and inside out – your participation HAS made a difference.

We want to remind you:

  • Our fight here in Prince Willam IS all about community – near AND far
  • YOU have made a difference
  • If you have felt like you were speaking into an abyss – your voices are being heard…in spite of falling on the deaf ears of some supervisors in Prince William County

Because of the community’s continued advocacy, measurable and meaningful accountability is on the horizon with the data center industry.

Virginia legislators face challenges with data centers (richmond.com)

“TYSONS CORNER — Virginia legislators face tough questions about the fast-growing data center industry, including the power supply and transmission network necessary to serve it, state and local tax breaks that have nurtured it, and its effects on the environment and surrounding communities…”

“…The solution is likely to be a wide array of power sources, with a focus on renewable energy and battery storage, but lawmakers are also going to have to work with the SCC in devising the fairest way to pay for new generation and transmission.”

““There is no such thing as a free lunch,” said Sen. Creigh Deeds, D-Charlottesville. “We’ve got to figure out where (the electricity supply) is going to come from and who’s going to pay for it…””

“…At the same time, the expansion of data centers has sparked a political backlash, both in Loudoun County and Prince William County, where the Planning Commission this month recommended against rezoning for the Prince William Digital Gateway, a cluster of data centers proposed on more than 2,100 acres near the Manassas National Battlefield Park.”

““Location of data centers is pretty controversial in Northern Virginia,” said Sen. Barbara Favola, D-Arlington, during the panel discussion, noting public concerns about the “ugliness” of the centers and their consumption of energy.”

““All of this is wrapped around very strong environmental issues,” Favola said…”

We in the Coalition are so very thankful to so many residents throughout our county, and in particular those in the western end, who have never given up hope.

Your dedication is what has created the space for real change to address the impacts of the data center industry.

Take this time to be kind to yourselves, celebrate with family and friends the stuff of life that matters: good food, good times, and a strong sense of community.

Find the joy, find the laughter, enjoy your Thanksgiving.
