Communities across the county have been saying for months that the impacts of the homeowner-driven Pageland Application will have far reaching consequences.
Thousands of Prince William County residents echo the concerns of Congresswoman Wexton:
“I share the Superintendent’s concerns regarding the welfare of the Park, and the surrounding environment, ecosystems, and communities, and I urge you to judiciously and cautiously take the potentially irreversible negative effects into consideration when examining this proposal. During my time in Congress, I have worked to protect America’s public lands and waters, including Manassas National Battlefield Park, which serve as key recreational spaces and economic drivers as well as habitats for numerous animals and plant species and important contributors to overall water quality here in the Commonwealth of Virginia and across the country. As such, my office has been closely monitoring the proposal’s federal nexus with the National Park Service and other relevant federal agencies as well as its potential impact on my constituents.” (Access complete letter below)
Listen to the facts and do not permit wanton greed to drive Prince William away from sustainability, and over a cliff:
- The Superintendent of the Manassas National Battlefield describes the threat of data center development as the “The most significant threat in thirty years”
- The County’s own Watershed Management Agency, Historical Commission, and the State Forestry Department have come out in opposition
- There is growing opposition from local, regional, state, and national conservation groups to the Pageland Data Center Industrialization Project
- Add to this mounting evidence that there are not only tens of millions of sq. ft. of data center development approved and not yet built, but thousands of unused acres remaining in the current data center overlay district
Despite the applicant misleading union workers – saying that the only way to have good jobs is to be a willing participant in the destruction of the county’s most important fiscal, environmental, and historical preservation asset, the Rural Crescent – county residents would not be intimidated by their bullying tactics at the engagement meeting on Thursday evening, January 27.
Citizens are feeling ignored and marginalized by the Chair of Prince William County.
We AGREE with Congresswoman Wexton.
But we need her, and Senators Kaine and Warner, to step up and flex their power.
Because this Board is not listening to the science, nor to their own county citizens.
No conservation organization or environmental agency will support this desecration of our collective Hallowed Ground for those who deserve to rest in peace – or will abide by fouling our critical clean drinking water resources of the Occoquan Reservoir.
If the threat of Disney and Mickey Mouse garnered a Congressional Oversight hearing, doesn’t the threat of industrial data center blight on a land mass equal to two Reagan National Airports just outside of a treasured National battlefield deserve the same?
We will not stand idly by in silence, and let this:
become this:
This Community is asking our Federal leadership to protect the full integrity of the legacies which we believe must live on, long after we are gone.
We formally request a Congressional Oversight Hearing on the impacts of nearly 2,200 acres of industrial data center development in the corridor of the Manassas National Battlefield.
