The PW DCOZOD – Data Center Opportunity Zone Overlay District – was created in 2016 to prevent our county from EVER going through the chaos and misery the Haymarket Amazon data center complex caused. The purpose was to ensure that data centers could be built, by right, with no need to change zoning or get special use permissions from the board of supervisors, in the 10,000 acre industrial zones of the county where water, sewer, and power infrastructure is already in place to support data centers’ massive requirements.
In May, 2021 the PWC Board of Supervisors established an initiative to expand the DCOZOD to permit data center proliferation to far more areas throughout the county.
