Bob Weir Honored by Town of Haymarket

PROCLAMATION FOR BOB WEIR – 7 PM – 9/2/25
15000 Washington St., Haymarket

The public is invited to the Haymarket Town Council meeting, next Tuesday evening at 7 PM, when Bob will be honored for all his years of service to the Town of Haymarket and surrounding communities.  After the town’s Proclamation for Bob Weir, you can share your own fond memories of Supervisor Bob.

Dear Coalition Supporters and Friends,

With each passing day, the roller coaster of recent decisions, and new ones on the horizon, many of us are missing Supervisor Bob more and more:  His wisdom, his wisecracks, and yes, his warmth.

Many are not aware, but before Bob was the Gainesville Supervisor, he was a critical voice in the success of the Coalition to Protect Prince William County.  Indeed, his relentless watching during the construction of the AWS by-right campus in Haymarket is what ultimately led to the settlement with Dominion Energy which saved the Carver Road Settlement, and forced the partial burial of the Haymarket transmission Line.

There are many people that owe him a debt of gratitude and are not even aware.

In addition to stepping up to fill the seat left open when Pete Candland resigned as Gainesville district supervisor, Bob previously served as Planning Commissioner and Town Councilman for the Town of Haymarket.

He was a loyal friend, and a loyal supporter of this community’s efforts to reign in out-of-control data center sprawl.

But also, Bob helped so many in private – not wanting recognition.  He just wanted the right policy and HATED injustice. Many do not know he wrote the Coalition’s successful remand motion for the Haymarket transmission line while sitting on a beach in North Carolina, most likely quenching his thirst with a Michelob Ultra!

We thought he would have enjoyed the below Yahoo Finance article featuring the Coalition helping other communities; and the video below PROVING what Bob, and the Coalition, have been saying for more than a decade: WE, as in YOU, and every other ratepayer in Virginia, are subsidizing the electrical infrastructure for the wealthiest industries in the world; and that “ain’t cool,” as Bob would say.

Did you know that a resident drove over four hours, from Danville VA, to attend Supervisor Bob’s Gainesville district town hall a year ago?  Bob met with him for hours, giving advice, and introducing him to other community members opposing data centers and their impacts.  And did you know, subsequent to that, Danville was successful in stopping their project?

Bob reveled in other’s successes!

Can the AI data center boom be stopped? Meet some opponents with battle plans.

“…Since its inception more than a decade ago………….. the Coalition to Protect Prince William County, has helped mount two separate years-long legal battles against “hyperscale” data centers moving into the state’s rural crescent.”

“The first fight, which lasted from 2014 to 2018, was related to a data center project built by a subsidiary of Amazon (AMZN). While the coalition didn’t stop the data center, their case against Virginia’s dominant utility Dominion Energy — which powered the data center — resulted in a settlement that forced Dominion to bury a piece of its infrastructure (a transmission line) for the project that otherwise would have run through a century-old, working-class Black neighborhood.”

“…coalition members were well prepared for their second big legal fight, when Blackstone-owned QTS proposed a 22-million-square-foot data center campus, called the Digital Gateway, in Prince William County, about 35 miles southwest of D.C.

And the video below is so perfect! Proving without a shadow of a doubt, the increases in our electrical bills are a result of out-of-control data center development.
