Bob – You were the Best

LETTER: Bob Weir fought for what was right, will be missed | Opinion | princewilliamtimes.com

Bob Weir is gone – He left us far, far too quickly.

Bob was an anomaly.  Intensely private – and intensely caring about the ENTIRE county at the same time.  Never living in the Rural Crescent – but deeply caring about what the Rural Crescent established and protected for all of Prince William County.  A staunch Republican supported as well by Democrats and Independents.

Bob was drawn to speak up for what was right.  To fight for what was right.  To DO what was right.  And that’s quite simply what he did.

In a world that pays attention to and only looks for soundbites, he looked at the heart of a matter.   He dug into the details.  He knew the details.  He challenged based on the details and what made sense – focused on the truth of a matter.  He was dogmatic, tenacious and smart – and we all loved that about him.

I will ALWAYS cherish the time we spent together fighting the many Haymarket transmission line routes proposed for the Haymarket AWS data center campus.  We were a team of very different personalities and skills – we made a difference – we persevered, and we won.  We couldn’t have accomplished what we did without Bob’s influence.

Bob stepped up and fought for the Town of Haymarket for over 20 years and never looked back.

When Bob won the special election for the Gainesville district Supervisor seat, he was stunned.  He said to me that night, “This is a mandate” – and he took that to heart.

He was trusted. We knew that if Bob Weir was made aware of an issue he would dig into it and do whatever was in his power to rectify the injustice.

Bob shied away from hugs or demonstrations of affection.  But right now, all I want to do is send him and his family a hug and say: “Bob – I am going to miss you.  I am so sorry you are no longer in our world.  You were loved; you were admired; you were trusted. You were the best.”
