The Coalition to Protect PWC has been very open about our participation and takeaways from Dominion Energy’s monthly “stakeholder” meetings. We can assure you with 100% certainty (and their meetings with us have confirmed) — EVERY new transmission line within Prince William County is triggered by load demand from data center development.
The new Hornbaker transmission line (details below) is triggered by a new 300 MW Stack Data Center Campus in the Data Center Overlay. In fact, that new load demand will be responsible for more than this one transmission line. If you are feeling confused and overwhelmed, our experience in those “stakeholder” meetings is like witnessing a slow-moving mud slide, consuming whatever is in its path.

What is happening to our communities because of this ONE industry is simply patently unfair. Do not allow Dominion Energy, OR your elected leaders, to normalize what we are experiencing with energy infrastructure, whether it’s new transmission lines and substations, gas generation, or nuclear reactors coming to your neighborhood. NO community should be asked to bear such immense burdens, both on our immediate quality of life AND on our utility bills, all to serve the for-profit needs of one industry – DATA CENTERS.
It may be that the strategy of Dominion Energy AND the Data Center industry is to overwhelm us, hoping we will simply give up. We won’t give up, we can’t give up — because look around you: WHERE in this state can you go to find a place where this industry or its infrastructure isn’t spreading like a plague? At least here you have a community engaged and knowledgeable about what is truly at stake.
There will be a lot of meetings addressing Data Center impacts coming in the following weeks. But many hands make light work. People need to engage where they can, because the proverbial blast zone of impacts is ever widening. There are MULTIPLE transmission lines coming through Prince William County and the entire state, some even bigger than we have seen built thus far.
When you hear “reliability” from Dominion Energy, do not be fooled. The only reason we are experiencing this kind of grid threat is because of explosive Data Center load demand. REMOVE the Data Centers driving the need, and this kind of insane new transmission infrastructure would be unnecessary and would disappear from their narrative.
We hope to see you at the meeting on the 29th or the 30th, because trust us, there are MORE transmission lines coming. We already know of 5 new transmission lines coming through the Brentsville and Gainesville Districts. With each new Data Center cluster that our Board of Supervisors approves, there is a risk of even more new transmission lines to feed it.
The Coalition continues to caution our elected leaders, both local, state, and national, that they are writing checks that WE, the community, are having to cash with our very quality of life…right now, and into the future.
Make YOUR VOICE heard. SHOW UP.
