JUNE 12 – Data Center “Extension Cord” Meeting – Cuts through Gainesville

Dear Coalition supporters and neighbors,

We apologize for missing in our most recent blast email a critical upcoming meeting NEXT WEEK:

DOMINION ENERGY – DAVES STORE TRANSMISSION LINE
Wednesday, June 12, 2024
5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Bull Run Middle School
6308 Catharpin Road
Gainesville, VA 20155

The ONLY reason we are facing this kind of industrialization in our community is because of OUR local PWC Board of Supervisors.

But when you read the announcement details below from Dominion Energy for the “Daves Store” transmission line, THEY are also not being transparent.  We know, this is not surprising.

This transmission line is NOT for some general “Economic Growth.” It is ONLY for Data Centers.  AND all of us are paying the cost, literally and figuratively.

The Board of Supervisors was warned that data center development at the intersection of John Marshall HWY and Catharpin Road had no substations and no transmission lines, and yet, they moved forward with approvals.  Now what was foretold is coming to roost.

We are sick of people in positions of power ignoring our concerns and foisting the consequences of their actions on all of us. The need for this data center transmission line is a direct result of the votes by these supervisors. Please feel free to send an email to the supervisors who are directly responsible — and who are STILL making bad decisions.  Let them know how you feel.

It is no accident that Dominion AND NTT have planned back-to-back meetings.  If you feel disgusted by what is happening, you are not alone.  Make some noise at both the transmission line Dominion meeting next week on June 12th, and the substation NTT meeting on June 18th the following week.

The Prince Williams Times reported that local energy firm Dominion Energy “…said that the data center cluster at John Marshall Highway and Catharpin is leading towards what is seeming to be needing new infrastructure.’

“It’s unfair to put the community through this again,” Elena Schlossberg-Kunkel, executive director of The Coalition to Protect PWC, said during a public hearing that preceded the board’s vote.”

“Haymarket and Gainesville are being engulfed with data centers, transmission lines, and substations,” added the Coalition’s Karen Sheehan.”

Daves Store | Dominion Energy

“Dominion Energy proposes to construct a double-circuit 230 kV transmission line and substation to support continued economic development growth and area reliability in the Gainesville area of Prince William County.”

“The Daves Store substation will be located adjacent to the existing Heathcote substation near Interstate-66 and Lee Highway (Route 29). The 230 kV double-circuit transmission line proposes to run east from the Daves Store substation connecting to additional substations (named Trident and Stinger) before terminating at NOVEC’s Atlantic substation near the intersection of Wellington Road and Rollins Ford Road.”

The “Daves Store” extension cord transmission line originates at the Atlantic Research industrial parcel across from Jiffy Lube. The line will slice through parts of both the Brentsville and Gainesville districts, impacting the entire redevelopment area at the old Iron Atlas site.  All this devastation just to feed the NTT and AWS campus at 55 and Catharpin.  The Coalition asked Dominion to bury the line – that request was met with refusal.
