Elena Schlossberg, executive director of the Coalition to Protect Prince William County, recently reported that the citizens organization has obtained the required number of signatures on the recall petitions of Pete Candland, Gainesville District Supervisor, but not on the recall petitions of Ann Wheeler, Chair of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors.
Said Schlossberg, “We have reached the minimum number required, which is 1796 signatures from qualified registered Gainesville district voters.”
“However, we are continuing to collect signatures for the Candland recall, because we know that there will probably be some signatures that will be ineligible. For instance, someone who may be a Brentsville or Coles district voter signs the Candland recall but thought that they were a Gainesville district voter.”
Prince William County voter signatures on the Chair Wheeler recall petition had reached 4,660 out of the 11,209 required for the recall (as of 9/4/22), Schlossberg said.
Coalition to Protect Prince William County volunteers continue to collect petition signatures at many sites throughout the County.
“The locations are posted every week on multiple social media sites, including the Coalition’s Facebook page and on the Coalition’s website home page,” Schlossberg said.
Signature forms can also be downloaded from the Coalition’s website at www.ProtectPWC.org. Information and forms can be accessed from the home page.
“All of the information for correctly submitting signature forms is outlined in the rules for both recalls, listed below the forms and facts sheets for both recalls on the Coalition website,” Schlossberg said.
“The recall mailing address for submitting completed and witnessed forms is PO Box 474, Haymarket, VA 20169.”
She concluded, “In a time when this nation is so divided, the unity that we have seen in this recall effort should give people hope. Regardless of political ideology, regardless of race, religion, or ethnicity, we have all come together to stand up to corruption and to stop the destruction. Stop the data center proliferation in our rural crescent, in areas outside the data center overlay district, and next to schools and homes. Demand better oversight and regulation everywhere.”
Referring to the Candland petition, Schlossberg said, “Realizing predicting the timing and determination of the final BOCS vote on the PWC Digital Gateway Plan Amendment is not certain, as well as what a Circuit Court judge will rule on each recall, all we can do is put forth our best effort to hold elected leaders to a high standard of transparency and accountability. Citizens are the most important stakeholders, and our interests are not being represented because of these very specific and egregious financial conflicts of interest.”
