Last Friday, August 26, the Coalition’s attorneys responded to Dominion Power’s request for a do-over in the Haymarket transmission line case. The Coalition argued three things: Dominion’s request has no legal basis; Dominion’s claim that State Corporation Commission (SCC) Staff used “new evidence” is false since Staff simply applied existing evidence in a way Dominion did not like; and Dominion and their attorneys really just wanted the last word after flubbing earlier arguments and hearings.
The SCC General Counsel and our allies at Somerset Crossing entered similar arguments. Now it’s in the hands of the SCC Hearing Examiner and Commissioners.
I wanted you to have this information as soon as possible for three reasons:
1. If you need proof that our strategy – and your support – is working, this is it. A large corporation that brazenly harms our communities and uses rate payer dollars to fund pet projects has been exposed and embarrassed.
2. Dominion will stop at nothing – including distorting its own words and evidence in front of its regulator – to get what it wants and change the rules.
3. This battle is not over. The appeals process lays ahead, and Dominion will summon its legal minions to argue outside the process.
In the last week, the Coalition has received some much-needed financial support. For those who have given, thank you, you are making a difference, literally today.
For those yet to give, the need is pressing, and the time is now. Please, help us continue to fight the good fight and fund legal counsel that is keeping Dominion on its heels.
Dominion’s arrogance and sense of entitlement have become its weakness. Unity and unwavering resolve have always been our strength. Let’s take pride in what this community has accomplished, and let’s take the steps needed to finish the job.
