SCC Approves Transmission Grid Improvements in Fauquier and Prince Willaim Counties

RICHMOND — The State Corporation Commission (SCC) has approved a proposal by Dominion Virginia Power to upgrade and improve various electric transmission facilities located in Fauquier and Prince William counties. Known as the Warrenton-Wheeler reliability project, the SCC directed the company to build the improvements along the recommended route that reasonably minimizes adverse impact on the scenic assets, historic resources and the environment of the area concerned (Route C-1.1c).

The reliability project involves the Remington CT-Warrenton 230-kilovolt (kV) double circuit transmission line, the Vint Hill-Wheeler and Wheeler-Loudoun 230-kV transmission lines, the 230-kV Vint Hill Switching Station, and the 230-kV Wheeler Switching Station.

In its final order, the SCC stated that the need for a transmission solution is unchallenged. The area to be served by the project is dynamic and growing economically.

“After considering the options presented in the proceeding, we agree with the Hearing Examiner that Route C-1.1c is preferable to the proposed alternatives and satisfies the applicable statutory requirements,” the Commission concluded.
