The Coalition commends Supervisor Candland for taking a bold stand to protect the citizens in the Haymarket and greater Gainesville area from the imminent threat of massive overhead transmission lines intended to feed one customer, Amazon. His “Statement of Opposition” message is included below.
Dominion Virginia Power has stated in numerous newspaper articles and in documents to electrical distributors NOVEC and PJM that a new substation and transmission line are needed to provide power for a Haymarket “data center” and its “block load” by 2018.
There is a viable economic plan to develop the Midwood site just west of Haymarket, but the current data center proposal is not it, and we congratulate and support Supervisor Candland for standing up to protect the citizens in his district while still advocating for smart economic development.
