Dear Prince William Constituents:
Once again an issue has arisen that deeply concerns many of my constituents in the Gainesviile area; Dominion’s proposed Haymarket 230kV Line & Substation Project. Over the last several weeks, I have talked to many of you regarding what course of action should be taken. Like you, I want to ensure that the quality of life currently enjoyed in Western Prince William County is not diminished while still providing residents and businesses the electricity needed for the future.
I would like to be clear on my position and thoughts regarding this issue:
1) The ONLY current proposal for the transmission lines that I will support is the hybrid underground option along I-66. Make no mistake, I will do everything I can to make it cleat to Dominion and the SCC that it is the only current viable option.
2) As you have requested, I am chief co-patron of Delegate Marshall’s HB2356 which will establish a pilot program for the placement of three or more new electrical lines of 230 kilovolts or more to be placed underground. The costs of the projects shall be recoverable through a rate adjustment clause and entirely assigned to the utility’s Virginia jurisdictional customers.
3) Because I believe that your voices must be heard, I will do everything I can to ensure that at least one SCC hearing will be held in or around the Gainesville area.
Over the last several years I have had the honor of representing the residents of Western Prince William County. I have fought hard to stop the Bi-County Parkway and will continue to do so. Your concerns regarding the power line issue are as important to me as are your concerns regarding the Bi-County Parkway.
Thank you for always sharing your thoughts with me and I continue to look forward to working with you to resolve these and other issues that are of concern to you.
As always, please do no hestitate to contact me with any concerns and/or questions you may have at 703.815.1201 or delthugo@house.virginia.gov
